直接借自法语versatile，原义为changeable（易变的），inconstant（反复无常的），其词源可进而追溯至拉丁语versātilis'turning，moving around'（转变的，转换的），词根是vertere'to turn'（转变，转换）。从词源来看，versatile一词字面本身就暗含be able to turn from one skill to another（具有多方面技能）之义。
