and与or的区别在于:and一般用于肯定句中,否定句中则用or。在少数情况下,and也用于否定句中,这时not否定的是后者而不是前者; 而or所连接的两个部分都是否定。

要注意和介词with的区别：with表示和的时候是一种从属与附随关系，也就是说with对应到中文翻译来确实有和的概念，但是在英文本源单词用法中with往往是从属概念的“和”，而不是中文中完全平等的“和”。
这就是可以解释如下句子中为何要用就远原则：Mary with her sons is coming.玛丽和她的儿子们来了。这个句子中强调的是Mary，而她的儿子在这里只是从属的，所以谓语动词要和Mary保持一致。
而如下句子才是整整意义上的和的概念：Mary and her sons are coming.谓语动词用are是因为and两侧都是并列对等的，所以是加起来的主语复数概念。
