词源记忆法
撒克逊人把船尾叫做aft，在aft后面加上词缀-ward（向…的，朝…方向）合成了aftward，表示“朝着船尾”、“向后”等义。嗣后，aftward形式逐渐演变为aftward，词义也发生了变化，从原先表示方向转而表示时间，现仅作“后来”或“以后”解。
